Over the years, I have used and tested a ton of trading related trading hardware. Everything from chairs, to laptops, backpacks monitors and more.
Here is the very best gear that I have uncovered.
I hope it helps you too.
Trading Computer Equipment
Here's everything computer related that I use and recommend.
This is the ultimate balance between power and portability. Some people prefer to buy a Windows based PC because the up-front cost is less.
I would argue that the total cost of ownership is higher with Windows because of all the dumb crap you have to fix…and all the downtime.
If you want to graduate to a real computer, this is what I would recommend. [Click here to get one…]
Samsung makes some really good monitors for trading.
I like using Samsung TVs as trading monitors because I like the additional TV features. But the trade-off is the picture isn't quite as sharp as a dedicated computer monitor. Either way, Samsung monitors are the great and can be very affordable.
I would recommend going for 27″ or bigger and 1080p resolution or better. I don't see the need for 4K or higher. [Click here to learn more…]
Monitor Desk Mount
A monitor mount for your desk may not seem essential…until you start using it. It's a small thing, but this can make your workspace more pleasant to be in. [Click here to learn more…]
There are a lot of second screen options for traders, but I love using the iPad Mini. It's light, super portable and acts as a backup computer, just in case I can't use my laptop.
What else do you need? Be sure to get Duet for Mac to use it as a second screen. [Click here to learn more…]
It took me a minute to get used to this mouse, but now I won't use anything else.
Super compact, no wires, great tracking and multi-touch surface. [Click here to learn more…]
Gear for the Traveling Trader
I have used this backpack since 2012 and it has been with me on countless trips and goes with me to work at coffee shops. Whenever possible, I only bring this pack on a trip. The seams are built to hold 400 pounds and the external laptop pocket in the back makes it a breeze at the airport security check.
They ain't cheap, but totally worth it. [Click here to learn more…]
Booq Viper Hard Case 12
Laptops are expensive. Are you going to carry them around in a paper bag? Of course not, and using a crappy case wouldn't be too much smarter. The Booq Viper case has been the best laptop case that I have ever used. It also holds 2 iPad Minis on top of a Macbook Air 11″. [Click here to learn more…]
Hydro Flask Water Bottles
Hydration is important for keeping your mind and body running at optimal levels. So it's a good idea to have a high-quality water bottle that you can use at home or on the road.
These bottles are durable and keep any drink hot and cold for a long time. It also helps keep plastic bottles out of landfills and they are more sanitary than plastic. I have been using them for awhile and I love them. [Click here to get yours…]
Carrying around big headphones will only make you a target in many parts of the world. I have purchased this brand for years and while I have tried a bunch of other brands, I always come back to these.
They aren't noise cancelling, but they do block out noise well. [Click here to get it…]
Trading Office Gear
Here is some other stuff that we find useful at our trading desks.
Trading Office Chair
A good office chair matters because you will be spending a lot of time in that chair. This is the best chair design that we have ever used. The best part is that it costs about $100 and we would argue that it is almost as good as an expensive Aeron chair. [Click here to learn more…]
Gunnar Computer Glasses
Eye fatigue is a trading hazard. When you are tired, you make mistakes and you are more likely to lose money.
These glasses help cut down on eyestrain, so you can be at the computer longer and are able to take advantage of opportunities. [Click here to learn more…]
A life worth living is worth recording. Physical notebooks aren't for everyone. But it has been shown that since writing with a pen stimulates more muscles, so it also stimulates your brain more, than typing.
Jot down trading ideas, your to-do list and more. The best part is that it never runs out of batteries. [Click here to learn more…]
Pilot juice up 04 Pens
This is one of those small things that you don't realize you are missing until you start using them. Having a pen that works and doesn't cost a fortune is harder to find than you might think. I get super annoyed by pens that don't work perfectly.
So I've tried dozens of recommendations, in search of the best daily-use pen. This is it. Give it a try now and thank me later. [Click here to learn more…]
Other Trading Gear
Here are some nice-to-haves, but they aren't really essential.
Leather Notebook Cover
We are pretty hard on our notebooks and they get busted up. We want to have our notebooks around for the rest of our lives, so we use a reusable leather cover.
Makes plain notebooks look fancy and keeps them in excellent shape. [Click here to learn more…]
Get your shit together.
These are indispensable for keeping wires organized. In our electronic lives, those cables can get out of hand. [Click here to learn more…]
The Heroic Adventure Shirt
We believe that black t-shirts are appropriate attire in almost any situation. But as traders, we also get to choose when and where we work.
The Heroic Adventure Shirt is made by American Apparel and perfect for your next adventure. Just throw it in your bag and go! [Click here to get it…]
The Trading Commandments Mugs
Need a reminder to do the right thing? One of our mugs might help. They can be a friendly reminder in a hectic world.
If nothing else, at least you won't go thirsty. [Click here to get one…]
The Trader Hat
This isn't really a hat…it's a magnet. When your bright-ass orange hat is staring people in the face, they can't help but ask: “What do you trade?”
That opens the door to conversation about your Forex trading and performance. Great for traders looking for investors, a trading job, or just to meet other traders at an otherwise lame party.
If you trade other things, then this hat could be useful for starting conversations about that too…but that's none of our business. [Click here to get one…]
